Stanza Nomade

Verona, Italy

Concept

Luciana M. Todeschini was awarded the 2025 Rising Star Award by ASID NY Metro with Stanza Nomade.

This project is rooted in the vision of delivering a high-end, yet effortlessly maintained bohème aesthetic—infused with subtle nods to traditional and neoclassical design. It embraces an eclectic sensibility, weaving in small modern accents to create a layered, timeless atmosphere. Sustainability is central to the concept, with reclaimed materials used in creative ways, vintage pieces, and a strong emphasis on local craftsmanship and regional vendors. The color palette and textures are drawn from the surrounding landscape, fostering a seamless and harmonious transition from the outdoors in.

The twin beds were existing pieces from the client’s home, thoughtfully integrated into the refreshed design. The ceiling lamp is a vintage Italian Murano glass piece from the 1970s, adding a touch of sculptural elegance. All the rugs are vintage, selected to complement the warm palette of the space. Given the room’s generous height, I opted to counterbalance it with a terracotta-toned limewash on the ceiling, introducing warmth and intimacy to the space. A classic crown moulding was added to provide a refined transition and a cozy, finished feel. The back wall features a custom mural wallpaper by a local artist.

Where the niche is located, an existing door was removed and replaced with gypsum board, while the niche was preserved to feature this beautiful antique wood door frame, which the client had stored in their garage. We took the opportunity to clean, sand, and finish the frame using flaxseed oil to bring out its natural character. Inside the niche, we installed a custom cubist painting created by Luciana to introduce a bold, personal element that complements the room’s color palette and forms.

For the bathroom, we selected hand-crafted tiles in a rich green tone to create a sense of continuity with the blues and rusts featured in the adjacent bedroom, enhancing the flow and grounding the space in nature. The green brings depth and a feeling of the outdoors in, echoing the surrounding landscape. The antique brass hardware adds warmth and timelessness, while the vintage mirror, sourced from a local secondhand shop, introduces a unique character. Paired with modern sconces, the mix of old and new creates a balanced, eclectic charm. The ceiling pendant is also vintage Murano from the 60s that the client had stored in their garage.
